Southern Entrance

This scope included the iconic oculus, patinated brass cladding, glass lift, perforated cladding and custom ceiling troffers to host services beneath the exposed off-from concrete internal soffit.

Our team of designers, fabricators, and tradespeople worked closely alongside the head contractor and primary consultants to effectively identify and address risks in real time and refined component prototypes offsite to ensure the architectural design intent was fully delivered.

Sandstone and solid brass come together with perforated anodised aluminium to wrap this Southern Entrance in sleek style, whilst maintaining the quiet dignity of the original building.

Moving through the main foyer and up to the existing building, two spiral staircases wind to upper levels. Aluminium wraps around the staircases in statuesque beauty, a material known for its malleability and give. Handled with care by experienced Tradespeople, the spiral uncoils with 4 different radiuses. In order to achieve such complex work, many templates were custom made for rolling panels, then on the soffit all the panels were perforated, out of wind and with express joints.

In order to achieve seamless installation, the Design and prototype phase included multiple rounds of prototyping.  Each panel was templated in MDF and 3D scanned before progressing to templates in thin gal sheets on our laser CNC. This process allowed us to install the pieces with precision, maintaining the Architect’s vision of exposed edges with clean lines.

In order to achieve the client’s architectural vision for these complex works, we refined prototypes of different parts of the build off-site before installing them into the AWM Building. The finished works have been well received by the public and we are very proud to have contributed to this iconic Australian building.
