Curved glazing
The Bean Building is an addition to the Australian War Memorial, located behind Poppy’s Café. We were excited to support this project with full façade design and construction service.
On this façade we built all of the glazing, plant room cladding, Snap seam cladding, cappings, window reveals and all of the structure, weather proofing and security linings under the stone work.
If you enter from Poppy’s Café then you can instantly see the highlight of the Bean Building with the curved glass that’s surrounded by anodised reveals. These are secret fixed with tapped screws in the back of the aluminium and then anodised. Very slow going and tricky on pieces which are compound curved.
On the western point closest to the existing building is the reading room glass which was the hardest element for us to build on the project. Compound curved panels were installed into compound curved channels which we had to tig weld together on-site.
It was an honour to build the Bean Building and Southern Entrance at the same time. It’s the hardest thing Eifer has done to date.
